Overview

The Facility Services Technician (FST) acts as an integral member of a team responsible for the maintenance of Trillium Line buildings, structures, facilities, instrument housing, and the mechanical systems within the wayside area. The FST supports meeting the availability and quality criteria in the operating contract and the requirements of the business, including preventative maintenance, major maintenance, inspections and corrective maintenance of assets. The FST ensures accurate records of all maintenance activities and asset condition are kept. The FST works within the Wayside team in which there exists a mutual cooperation amongst members. All FSTs promote and ensure the consistent adoption of safe working practices whether working as an individual, as part of a group or when escorting Contractors.

This role has Significant Environmental Aspects associated with it which may include handling of and exposure to Sulfuric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide; Bright Test LV (Acid), Tractor Bright (Alkaline) and from time-to-time other cleaning or hazardous product. Training, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS) will be provided to ensure employee safety when dealing with environmental aspects.

Your role

  • Maintain Trillium Line buildings, structures, and facilities; meet the availability and quality criteria in the operating contract and the requirements of the business.
  • Carry out preventative, corrective, and major maintenance tasks throughout the system including, but not limited to:
    • Perform inspection, maintenance and replacement of lighting systems.
    • Inspection, maintenance and light duty repair of HVAC systems.
    • Inspection, maintenance and light duty repair of Plumbing systems.
    • Inspection, maintenance and light duty repair of Door systems including badge entry systems.
    • Inspection, maintenance and light duty repair of train wash system.
    • Perform general facility duties such as painting, drywall repair, graffiti removal, light cleaning, maintenance of landscaping, snow removal, office furniture relocation and parts delivery.
    • Ensure that planned maintenance inspections and corrective activities are completed on schedule per the MMPRS work order management.
    • Actively and independently search maintenance database on daily basis to reduce backlog of activities.
    • Ensure that accurate records of maintenance and asset condition are maintained.
    • Oversee the deployment and escort of contractors throughout the system and ensure they are working safely, meeting contract specifications, and adding value.
    • Maintain tools and materials on service vehicle to perform maintenance activities safely and proficiently.
    • Comply with Job Hazard Analysis and Stepback programs to ensure that safety standards are enforced and constantly improved.
    • Assist and liaison with other departments (Guideway, Sig/Com, Vehicles, Operations) when additional assistance is required.
    • Task prioritization to ensure timely and efficient response to deficiency reports from Control Room or Supervisor.
    • Ensure all shifts and supervisors are provided with handover by email.
    • Use boomlift and elevated work platforms to complete work safely.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Wayside Supervisor/Manager.

Safety responsibilities:

  • Maintain a personal duty of care for one's'own safety, and take responsibility for his/her own colleagues, contractors and customer's safety and welfare and that of others who may be affected by his/her activities.
  • The holder of this position shall exercise good workplace housekeeping.
  • Prescribed personal protection equipment shall be worn at appropriate times.
  • Comply with company Job Hazard Analysis and Stepback programs.

About you

  • Minimum two years' experience of facilities maintenance work in a service, operating, or industrial industry.
  • Experience of the following: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building services/building maintenance.
  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance or building maintenance is an asset.
  • A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Knowledge of the regulations governing electrical installations in buildings, HVAC systems, boilers, safety procedures for maintaining electrical, mechanical plant, and civil structures.
  • Ability to communicate and write in English.
  • Work effectively independently or as a member of a team.
  • This position requires shift work (nights, weekends and holidays) for continuous operation based on 24/7 environment.
  • Must be capable of working outside in all weathers to ensure scheduled work is completed to enable the guideway to be returned to operation.
  • Ability to promote and maintain good working relationships with the Control Room staff and respond in a prompt manner. Ensure that communication is maintained throughout a failure scenario so that Control Room staff can make informed decisions on how to best manage the service around the failure.
  • Ability to work at heights (ladder, scaffold, elevated work platform, rooftop).
  • A current Class G drivers' license.
  • Proven track record for safe use of equipment.
  • Expected compensation for this role is up to $32.25 per hour. Base wages are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
