Overview
We are seeking a Senior Public Information Specialist to lead and manage public outreach initiatives in support of complex infrastructure and development projects. This role is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication and public engagement programs that align with client goals and regulatory expectations.
The Senior Public Information Specialist serves as a key liaison between project teams, clients, stakeholders, and the public—ensuring clear, consistent, and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle. This position also provides guidance and mentorship to junior team members while driving high-quality outreach deliverables.
Your Role
Reporting to a Technical Manager, the Senior Public Information Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing comprehensive public outreach programs. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading public outreach efforts for major and/or complex projects, ensuring alignment with client and project objectives
- Managing client relationships related to public outreach, providing strategic recommendations and guidance
- Developing and implementing project-specific Public Outreach Plans in coordination with the client
- Coordinating and participating in government briefings, stakeholder meetings, and public presentations
- Producing and overseeing outreach materials, including publications, newsletters, web content, and other communication tools
- Defining key messaging, themes, and communication strategies in partnership with clients
- Monitoring outreach budgets and reviewing vendor invoices under supervisor direction
- Maintaining organized project files and ensuring effective coordination of outreach information among stakeholders
- Preparing and distributing regular reports on outreach activities and performance (daily, weekly, monthly)
- Coordinating project teams to ensure outreach deliverables meet contractual and operational requirements
- Supervising or mentoring junior staff and support personnel, as assigned
This role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate complex stakeholder environments, and apply sound judgment in delivering outreach programs that support project success.

About you
You are a strategic communicator with strong project management skills and a proven ability to lead public outreach efforts in complex environments. You excel at building relationships, developing compelling messaging, and engaging diverse audiences with professionalism and credibility.
Key qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in public relations, public outreach, or community engagement
- Demonstrated knowledge of public involvement strategies, stakeholder engagement, and media relations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop high-quality promotional and informational materials
- Experience delivering presentations and effectively engaging with public officials, community groups, and stakeholders
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, elected officials, media representatives, and the public
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Proficiency with standard computer applications and communication tools
- Ability to travel locally as needed to support project and stakeholder engagement activities
- Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company policy

Additional information
Expected compensation range is between $85,000 - $120,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
