Denver, Colorado, États-Unis d'Amérique
Overview
AtkinsRéalis seeks an energetic and highly motivated Senior Transportation Planner or Engineer in Denver, Colorado to help us grow our transportation planning expertise. Our team works on a diverse range of high-profile projects throughout Colorado and other states. In this role, you will help us deliver projects for local municipalities, state DOT's, and federal clients at both a local and national level.
The successful candidate will lead technical elements of transportation planning and traffic engineering studies, supporting projects that range from program support, corridor and safety studies, operational analyses, to large-scale transportation system analyses. This role will help shape study approaches, coordinate technical work across multidisciplinary teams, and support planning, environmental, and transportation investment decisions. The candidate will work closely with clients, agency partners, and project teams throughout project development and may serve as a technical lead, task lead, deputy project manager, or project manager, depending on project needs.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and experience conducting or overseeing complex transportation analyses. They should be capable of either performing technical analyses directly or providing technical leadership to staff responsible for developing models, evaluating alternatives, and preparing technical documentation. Equally important is the ability to synthesize complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations and effectively communicate technical information to clients, agencies, and stakeholders.
Projects may range from local and regional corridor studies to large-scale transportation planning and environmental studies. The candidate will support analyses related to transportation system performance, traffic operations, travel demand, multimodal mobility, safety, and future transportation needs. The ideal candidate will have experience developing, reviewing, or leading traffic microsimulation analyses and possess a strong understanding of modeling methodologies, assumptions, calibration, validation, and interpretation of results. They should be capable of either performing microsimulation analyses directly or providing technical leadership and oversight to staff developing models and technical documentation. While experience with TransModeler is preferred, candidates with demonstrated expertise in comparable microsimulation platforms such as VISSIM or Aimsun will be considered.
Familiarity with FHWA processes, alternatives analysis, and transportation studies supporting NEPA documentation is preferred but not required. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring junior staff, supporting project management and proposal development efforts, contributing to business development activities, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across a variety of transportation planning and engineering projects.
Your role
- Serve as a technical lead, deputy project manager, or project manager for transportation planning, traffic engineering, and transportation systems analysis projects.
- Lead or oversee complex transportation analyses, including traffic microsimulation, traffic operations evaluations, transportation system performance assessments, alternatives analyses, and corridor studies.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior staff developing models, conducting analyses, and preparing technical documentation.
- Develop, review, and refine analytical methodologies, assumptions, and documentation to ensure technical rigor and consistency across projects.
- Interpret and synthesize complex technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for clients, agencies, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Support a variety of transportation projects, including corridor studies, transportation planning studies, safety assessments, multimodal analyses, and environmental documentation efforts.
- Provide quality assurance and quality control reviews for technical analyses, modeling efforts, and project deliverables.
- Participate in or lead client meetings, technical workshops, and stakeholder discussions, and serve as a trusted advisor on technical transportation issues.
- Assist with or lead proposal development, scope preparation, fee estimating, and business development activities.
- Experience with traffic analysis software, such as Synchro, HCS, IHSDM, or other analysis tools is preferred.
- Experience with regional travel demand modeling tools such as TransCAD, or the ability to interpret and apply travel demand model results, is preferred.
- While experience with TransModeler is preferred, candidates with demonstrated expertise in comparable microsimulation platforms such as VISSIM or Aimsun will be considered.
About you
- B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, or related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, transportation modeling, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting FHWA and NEPA transportation studies requiring system-level transportation analyses, traffic forecasting, alternatives evaluations, and transportation modeling.
- Experience developing, reviewing, or managing traffic microsimulation and transportation modeling efforts, including the ability to interpret and communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Professional registration in your field of practice (P.E. or AICP preferred); PTOE and/or RSP certification is a plus.
- Strong technical writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated success applying transportation planning, modeling, operations, and safety analysis techniques across a diverse range of projects.
- Strong organizational, communication, time management, and budget management skills.
