Serious about the future? Choose nuclear.

Are you

  • curious about how things work
  • happiest when solving complex problems,
  • committed to changing the way we treat our work,
  • and enthralled by the pace and promise of new technology?

If so, you sound just like us!

A career in nuclear is for the people who ask “what if?” and will thrive as part of a team in answering it. If we are going to deliver secure, low‑carbon power for future generations, we need to think big and act fast.

Nuclear power is essential

it provides a reliable base load to our national grid so that we can. keep the lights on, power our expanding electrified infrastructure and support growing grid demand It is a critical component of the UK’s renewable energy transition and net zero, providing a stable, available base load to complement the fluctuations in power generation from wind and solar energy.

AtkinsRéalis are at the centre of one of the UK’s fastest growing and most exhilarating sectors, and we need people who want to make a lasting impact. As Bethan, one of our Graduate Electrical Engineers says,

"I'm working on a building services project on Sizewell C. It’s been a great first project because
it’s challenged me to step into real engineering work straight away while still giving me room to learn.”

You could contribute to the life extension of the UK’s current Nuclear fleet, work on gigawatt scale new build programmes like Hinkley Point C or Sizewell C, support Rolls‑Royce Small Modular Reactors, help deliver nuclear projects in the UAE or work on safely decommissioning the UK’s Nuclear legacy assets such as Sellafield. Our teams develop cutting‑edge solutions using robotics, AI and data analytics, extended reality and immersive virtual environments – we’re pushing boundaries in every direction.

This is work with purpose. Bring your curiosity, your courage and your desire to get involved and we will help you develop through real challenge, breadth of experience, and a supportive team that always has your back.

AtkinsRéalis uncovered apprenticeships

Our projects

A range of some of the projects worked on by our teams in Nuclear AMEA:

Core disciplines in Nuclear

• civil structural engineering
• mechanical engineering
• electrical engineering
• control & instrumentation  engineering
• process  engineering
• safety engineering
• engineering design
• radioactive waste
• nuclear/environmental science
• project management
• digital - robotics, immersive environments, data analysis and many more

We also accept graduates from non‑engineering degrees including physics and chemistry for some disciplines - notably nuclear safety.

There are a number of Apprenticeships in Nuclear, too.

Teams in Nuclear

Our exciting portfolio of work covers both Nuclear Fission and Fusion new build projects which are a critical component in achieving our carbon net zero targets. We apply multi-discipline AtkinsRéalis skills across the whole project lifecycle, from initiation all the way through to commissioning and commercial operation.

We’re incredibly proud that we’re recognised as a key and trusted component of the nuclear new build industry through delivering engineering and project expertize through our brilliant workforce.

AtkinsRéalis’ Reactor Operations team keeps the nation's lights on by solving complex engineering challenges across the lifetime of nuclear reactors - from power generation to life extension to defueling. For you, this means unrivalled opportunities to develop your career by joining a considerable variety of projects across the asset lifetime.

We provide fully integrated engineering and project management services for all power generating nuclear facilities in the UK and are growing rapidly with an increasing portfolio of significant projects. You can expect to support Rolls Royce in their work caretaking the UK submarine fleet, EDF in maintaining our civil power-generating stations, Framatome in developing the nuclear fuel cycle, and a large variety of other clients in both the civilian and defence sectors.

When a nuclear site reaches retirement, our specialist decommissioning teams are uniquely equipped to provide 360 services - from strategic advice to operations and full product delivery.

Our global waste management capabilities connect people, data and technology to provide cutting-edge tools, robotic solutions and treatment techniques for all types of waste, essentially removing the risk to humans in that space. We routinely manage waste for the UK, US and Canadian Governments. Fundamental to our capability is strong technical knowledge and broad experience within the nuclear industry.

Our teams are spread across the UK, all delivering solutions to technically complex problems with our Sellafield and NDA Portfolios, as well as supporting new strategic clients.

Digital, Products & Technology (DP&T) is at the forefront of transforming the nuclear industry through digital innovation, advanced technologies and product development. We are building the future by combining deep industry expertise with emerging technologies such as AI, XR, digital engineering and robotics and automation to solve some of the sector's most complex challenges.

Our teams work across consultancy, project delivery, technology and product development, creating scalable solutions that improve how projects are delivered, reducing risk and enabling smarter decision-making. From developing innovative products to deploying cutting-edge technologies across major programmes, DP&T is redefining what's possible in nuclear while helping shape a safer, more sustainable future.

Since 2007, our Nuclear & Power Global Technology Centre (GTC) team based in India, has delivered projects for the UK Civil Nuclear, Power Generations, Transmission & Distribution and Renewables businesses. The GTC team comes with a strong previous experience in Nuclear Safety, Operation & Commissioning, Process Design, Mechanical Design & Analysis, Piping Design, Control & Instrumentation Design, and Electrical Networks System Design of the Nuclear Power Plants and Conventional Utilities.

Our greatest strength is our hands-on experience, which enables us to seamlessly collaborate with our global colleagues to deliver projects.
