A career without boundaries: Rajeshwari’s secondment journey at AtkinsRéalis

At AtkinsRéalis, secondments are more than temporary assignments they’re gateways to new perspectives, experiences, and growth. For Rajeshwari, this opportunity became a turning point in her career, allowing her to step into a new role, a new office, and a new way of thinking about engineering and collaboration.

Read her story in her own words.

Rajeshwari

A culture that encourages growth

AtkinsRéalis has always encouraged internal mobility and professional growth. My line manager and the Buckinghamshire leadership team were incredibly supportive from identifying the opportunity to facilitate the transition. The onboarding process at the Aylesbury office was smooth, and I was welcomed warmly by the Buckinghamshire Highways team, which made settling in much easier.

Most rewarding experiences

Rajeshwari

The most rewarding part has been seeing the designs come to life on-site. Leading the implementation of the Castlefield traffic calming project was a highlight—it gave me a deeper appreciation for buildability and stakeholder collaboration. Additionally, attending the Sustainability & Innovation event in Kent broadened my perspective on eco-conscious design, which I’m excited to integrate into future projects.

How the journey shaped me

Rajeshwari with Team

Professionally, I’ve gained hands-on experience in project delivery, project management, stakeholder engagement, and cross-office collaboration. Personally, the secondment pushed me out of my comfort zone, helping me build confidence, adaptability, and a stronger network across the business. It’s been a truly enriching experience that has shaped my approach to problem-solving and teamwork.

The power of secondments

Secondments are a powerful way to foster cross-pollination of ideas and strengthen inter-office relationships. They encourage knowledge sharing, expose us to diverse ways of working, and help build a more agile and connected workforce. It’s a great way to nurture innovation and support career development across the organization.

Advice for colleagues

I would encourage colleagues to take a proactive approach express your interest early, engage in open conversations with your manager, and stay informed about internal opportunities. Secondments offer a unique platform for both technical and personal development. Embrace the experience with curiosity and a willingness to contribute in new environments. It’s a valuable investment in your career and a chance to make a meaningful impact across the business.

At AtkinsRéalis, we believe in empowering our people to explore, grow, and succeed across borders and disciplines. Rajeshwari’s story is a testament to the opportunities secondments bring to individuals, teams, and the organization as a whole. If you’re ready to expand your horizons and shape your future, explore opportunities with us today.
