Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience, specializing in external lighting design and UK regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, a deep understanding of lighting standards, and the ability to lead, coordinate, and mentor junior engineers in a multidisciplinary project environment.
Your role
- Lead the design of external lighting systems across all project stages, including concept development, detailed design, photometric calculations, and lighting controls integration.
- Perform lighting calculations using industry-standard software such as Lighting Reality, DIALux Evo, and AGI32.
- Carry out power and electrical load calculations using Amtech in compliance with UK and project-specific standards.
- Conduct lighting class assessments and determine project requirements in accordance with BS standards, with strong understanding of road geometry and its impact on lighting design.
- Responsible for selection of lighting equipment, defining ducting requirements, and preparing technical schedules, BOQs, and design documentation.
- Utilize AutoCAD 2D and Civil 3D to independently produce layouts, schematics, sections, and detailed drawings.
- Coordinate effectively with other utilities and services to resolve design interfaces, avoid clashes, and ensure multidisciplinary alignment.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, and contribute to mentoring and training junior engineers or graduates.
- Knowledge of tunnel lighting and landscape lighting is considered an added advantage.
Leadership Capabilities
- Mentor and train graduate engineers, providing technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and continuous skill development.
- Supervise and review engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications, reports, and technical calculations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality.
- Lead and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration, clear communication, and coordinated design delivery.
- Demonstrate strong planning, organisation, and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare and present technical content to internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Support project leads in managing design activities, tracking progress, and ensuring timely delivery of engineering outputs.
