Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Dam Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic Geotechnical and Geology team. In this role, you will contribute to major hydroelectric and dam projects, including greenfield developments, dam safety assessments, rehabilitation programs, and regulatory compliance initiatives. You will also play a key role in building and maintaining strong relationships with dam owners, fostering collaboration and trust throughout project delivery.

Your work will involve site visits, technical evaluations, and occasional travel to project locations. Your role

  • Support the design and development of new dam structures and rehabilitation projects.
  • Participate in the development of design concepts and engineering analyses.
  • Assist in preparing drawings, technical specifications, and reports.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses such as slope stability, seepage, and settlement.
  • Conduct Dam Safety Inspections and Reviews in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide construction supervision, ensuring adherence to design and safety requirements.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary projects—scope, schedule, budget, risk, and change—while coordinating inputs across investigation, design, and delivery.
  • Serve as a technical reference and QA reviewer, ensuring high standards across deliverables.
  • Mentor and train junior and intermediate engineers, fostering technical growth within the team.
  • Lead client engagement, present technical solutions, and apply relevant Canadian/Ontario/Québec design standards and guidelines in geotechnical contexts.

About you

  • P.Eng. (Ontario) with 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience (15+ years an asset) and a strong track record delivering complex consulting projects.
  • Graduate degree (M.Sc. or higher) in Geotechnical Engineering (civil engineering with a geotechnical focus).
  • Proven expertise in geotechnical design for dams, slopes/embankments, tunnels/excavations, and ground improvement.
  • Advanced proficiency in geotechnical numerical modeling and modern analysis software.
  • Strong project management skills (planning, resourcing, budgeting, risk management) and effective client liaison in a fast-paced consultancy environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, self-driven, and able to work independently.

Additional information

Expected compensation for this role is between $98,100 - $134,900 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
