Intermediate Field Technician

Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced fiield technician to carry out field work on various MTO projects. The technician will play a key role in the delivery of assignments as per MTO standards.

Your role

  • Conducting on site Asphalt sampling with Quarter Master method, proper labelling, and delivery of paving materials, such as loose mix asphalt, tack coat, PGAC and granular materials for quality control and quality assurance laboratory testing.
  • Checking compaction of Asphalt mat using Nuclear Densometer for various mixes as per MTO specification.
  • Carry out aggregate sampling and compaction test on MTO projects as per industry standards.
  • Carrying out coring on freshly paved asphalt mat, bagging and tagging of core samples as per MTO specification and transporting samples to designated laboratories.
  • Carrying out on-site concrete testing for Temperature, Air, Slump and casting of compressive strength cylinders as per OPSS and CCIL standards.
  • Monitor paving operations with respect to verification of material paved, Tack coat application, temperatures, lift thickness, surface deficiencies and reporting of any concerns to the client while on site.
  • Compiling and submission of Field forms and observation reports.
  • Liaison with all discipline team members, sub-contractors, clients and agencies.
  • Train staff on sampling, testing practices and procedures.

About you

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology/ Technician or equivalent.
  • Designation as determined by OACETT as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T), Road Construction Senior/ Junior Inspector (RCSI, RCJI) Technology/ Technician is an asset.
  • Must hold CCIL/ CSA or equivalent certification to test concrete.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working on MTO projects and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Previous engineering/construction experience is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of MTO policies, standards, and specifications, knowledge of MTO sample lot system, bagging and tagging as per MTO specifications.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Being able to work in fast paced environment and able to complete various tasks within set frame of time.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Able to travel and work in GTA and out of town projects.
  • Able to read CGS and MTO drawings and specifications.
  • Able to work on weekends, nights, shift work, additional hours as required.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills along with strong organizational & time management skills.
  • A valid Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $31.25 to $37 per hour. Base wages are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
