Project Specialist - Procurement Engineering (Reactor Components)

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups. Our expertise includes: Nuclear Steam Plant (NSP) engineering, Balance of Plant (BOP) engineering, Plant Life Management and Extension, Retube Tooling Systems, Inspection and Maintenance Services, Steam Generator Replacement, Plant Equipment Refurbishment and Retrofits.

The Project Specialist will report to a Project Manager (PM) and will be responsible for assigned senior level coordination of engineering, procurement, and manufacturing work for various Retube Projects (Cernavoda Unit 1, Pickering RFBR and Qinshan Units 1 and 2) that the company is executing. This role will require continuous communication with all project team members and stakeholders, and will be responsible for identifying, planning, and implementing various scopes of work under the direction of a Project Manager.

A Project Specialist is expected to have project experience, understand project execution methodology including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, quality, risk and contract management.

Your role

  • Oversee assigned project scope and ensured progress aligned with safety, quality, schedule, cost, and contractual requirements across multiple concurrent projects
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional stakeholders—including Project Management, Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Logistics, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors—to support seamless project execution
  • Prepare key project deliverables such as reports, commercial change notices, turnover documents, and stakeholder presentations
  • Monitor supplier progress on reactor component packages, including review and tracking of ITPs, procedures, and other technical documentation in collaboration with Engineering and Quality
  • Manage and track Prototype/Pre‑Production Qualification (PPQ) parts through all manufacturing, testing, and acceptance stages, including supplier site visits to expedite deliverables
  • Support project controls by maintaining action logs, contributing to schedule and budget inputs, reviewing supplier MPRs, and providing regular progress updates to the Project Manager
  • Facilitate effective communication by organizing stakeholder meetings, preparing minutes, maintaining strong client and subcontractor relationships, and reinforcing quality and nuclear safety culture throughout the project

About you

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / BSc in Engineering or equivalent is an asset.
  • Reactor Components Experience: 4 to 6 years' experience in Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement and Project management of Candu reactor components is an asset. Basic understanding of CNC machining, CMM programs, special processes like Heat treatment, Plating (Gold, Nickel, Chrome), Non-Destructive Examination is an asset.
  • Project Experience: Understanding of project delivery methodology including critical path scheduling, procurement and supply chain methodology and associated inspection and test plans related to reactor components is considered an asset.
  • Manufacturing Experience: Experience with Design and Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and Inspection of Reactor Components or Precision machined components.
  • Team Building: Ability to collaborate and thrive in a team environment to work towards common goals.
  • Quality Assurance: Appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and customer relationship skills. Demonstrated oral and written communication abilities.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read and understand drawings, and specifications is considered an asset.
  • Safety Knowledge: Working knowledge of industrial safety and nuclear safety culture.

Work Location

  • Based at our home office location in Mississauga, Ontario but able to periodically support site locations as required by the project.

  • Hybrid role: At this time, requirement is minimum 3 days per week in an office location collaborating with team.
