Resilience and Emergency Management Intern - Summer 2027

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Resilience and Emergency Management Intern to join our Austin, TX office.

Your Role

  • Support project teams with research, data collection, document compilation, meeting preparation, and follow-up for resilience, emergency management, grants, and disaster recovery programs.
  • Assist with reviewing, organizing, and tracking grant, application, project, or reimbursement documentation in accordance with applicable program guidance and quality standards.
  • Enter and maintain project information in spreadsheets, databases, dashboards, SharePoint sites, or other designated systems of record.
  • Help prepare simple correspondence, meeting summaries, approval letters, briefing materials, presentations, maps, forms, logs, and reporting documents for internal review.
  • Support quality control by checking documents for completeness, consistency, accuracy, formatting, and alignment with client or program requirements.
  • Assist with basic analysis, including compiling datasets, preparing tabulations or charts, reviewing guidance, summarizing findings, and supporting research on resilience or emergency-management topics.
  • Participate in internal coordination with grants specialists, planners, engineers, project managers, and technical staff to support timely project delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Resilience and Emergency Management Team.

About You

  • EXPERIENCE: No professional experience is generally required if accepted into an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree program in a related field. Prior internship, volunteer, research, customer service, administrative, data, planning, grants, or public-sector experience is a plus.
  • EDUCATION: Must have completed 60 credit hours toward a related degree from an accredited college/university by the start of the internship. Related fields may include Emergency Management, Public Administration, Planning, Public Policy, Geography/GIS, Environmental Studies, Urban or Regional Planning, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, Communications, or a related discipline.
  • SPECIAL SKILLS:
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams; willingness to learn SharePoint and other project systems.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow instructions and deadlines.
    • Familiarity with AI tools and processes as support, without being reliant upon them.
    • Basic analytical skills, including comfort with spreadsheets, data entry, document review, internet research, and simple calculations.
    • Interest in resilience, emergency management, hazard mitigation, disaster recovery, community planning, public-sector consulting, grants, or infrastructure programs.
    • Preferred, depending on office need: exposure to ArcGIS, Power BI, Smartsheet, Adobe Acrobat, FEMA Grants Portal, FEMA GO, state grant systems, or other designated tools.

Additional Information

Expected compensation range is between $23 - $29 hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
