A journey of growth and resilience: Sheela Reji's inspiring career path

Life is full of twists and turns, and the story of Sheela Reji's career is a testament to the power of resilience, adaptability, and ambition. For those who dream big and are willing to walk the challenging path to success, Sheela's story offers both inspiration and practical wisdom.

Sheela Reji's remarkable

A new beginning in the UAE

Sheela Reji's remarkable career began with a significant family decision. In the late 1980s, she, along with her family, sought new opportunities in the United Arab Emirates—a land known for its burgeoning economic prospects and vibrant cultural tapestry. Embarking on this new chapter, Sheela landed her first permanent job at an insurance company in Dubai. Here, she spent nearly a decade navigating the complex industry landscape, laying a solid foundation for her future career endeavors.

Working in the insurance sector offered Sheela a unique perspective on risk management and client relationships. She became adept at tackling challenges head-on and learning from each experience. These early years were crucial in developing her professional acumen and setting the stage for future successes.

Even as she built her career, Sheela never lost sight of her personal commitments. Like many professionals, she faced the perennial challenge of balancing work with family responsibilities. But a pivotal decision was on the horizon—one that would shape her career in unforeseen ways.

A commitment to family & transition to engineering

In a move that underscored her priorities, Sheela Reji chose to step back from her burgeoning career in the insurance sector to focus on her children's education. This decision marked a temporary shift in her professional path, reflecting the importance she placed on family values. The decision wasn't easy, but it was made with the long-term wellbeing of her family in mind.

To maintain a balance between professional and personal commitments, Sheela took on a part-time role with an engineering consultancy. This transition not only allowed her to support her family but also introduced her to the engineering sector—a field that would later become central to her career. For four years, Sheela managed both responsibilities, nurturing her family's needs while keeping her professional aspirations alive.

The experience in engineering consultancy offered her new insights and skills, expanding her professional repertoire. This exposure laid the groundwork for her eventual return to the full-time workforce, enriched with both personal growth and diverse industry experience.

A career reignited at AtkinsRéalis

By 2005, Sheela Reji was ready to reignite her career. Joining AtkinsRéalis as an Office Manager in the Site Operations department marked a new and exciting phase. At the time, the department was in its early stages, with around 50 staff members and a few projects on the horizon.

AtkinsRéalis offered Sheela the opportunity to immerse herself in a dynamic work environment that encouraged growth and innovation. The company was a fertile ground for her aspirations, and Sheela seized the chance to contribute actively and meaningfully. Her role allowed her to take on responsibilities that went beyond her initial job description, equipping her with invaluable experience in leadership and operations management.

Over the next two decades, Sheela witnessed and contributed to the remarkable growth of the company. Her resilience and dedication helped her overcome numerous challenges, propelling her career to new heights. The path wasn't without its hurdles, but Sheela's determination and work ethic ensured that she emerged stronger with each challenge.

Fulfilling a dream

For Sheela, being part of AtkinsRéalis was more than just a job; it was the fulfillment of a long-held dream. The company offered her the freedom to explore her potential and take on responsibilities to the best of her ability. In return, Sheela found immense satisfaction in helping others succeed and contributing to the company's positive transformations.

Her time at AtkinsRéalis not only fueled her professional growth but also sparked her personal development. She was inspired to explore broader business opportunities, gaining insights that propelled her career in ways she had never imagined. This environment of growth and discovery was instrumental in shaping her into the leader she is today.

The company's supportive framework allowed Sheela to flourish, paving the way for her ascent to the role of Director of Operations. Today, she oversees regional business activities in Site Operations, a testament to her growth within the organization and her unwavering commitment to excellence.

A cultural evolution

Over the years, the company has reinforced its commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, creating a vibrant and inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive. This ethos is woven into the fabric of daily operations and interactions, making it a core part of the company's identity.

Milestones, achievements, and team success

Growing the Site Operations part of the business to nearly 1,000 staff members has been a remarkable achievement for Sheela and her team. It is a milestone that fills them with immense pride, serving as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and strategic planning that have been the cornerstones of their success.

The growth of the Site Operations business was not achieved in isolation. It required concerted effort from every team member, each contributing their unique skills and expertise to drive progress. The collaborative spirit within the team was instrumental in achieving this milestone, demonstrating the power of teamwork in achieving ambitious goals.

This achievement is a reflection of the values that underpin Sheela's leadership style.
